Jo bought the kids their own strawberry plant and pot – today we planted it with them. They loved it! Not too keen on digging in the soil though…Reynard had to help them and I had to keep Zac from throughing all the soil out!

They are excited to each have their own pot and plant to look after, very proud!

Tesco Vouchers May 29, 2009

Tesco vousher

What do you spend your Tesco Vouchers on?

Well, did you know that you could redeem them for days out, restaurants, hotels and much more? It makes more sense to do this than to just spend your vouchers on food again. At some places you get up to 4x the amount. You’re already spending money at Tesco for food, so why not spend the vouchers on something else. A family day out perhaps!?

For example: a day out to Longleat Safari park costs £23 per adult (1 passport ticket), but for every £6.50 Tesco voucher you have you get 1 entry (1 passport ticket) into Longleat.

Bean Bags May 24, 2009

I always try to make or give a crafty gift for birthdays.

Annabell turned 1 so I decided to make bean bags from felt! I cut out some basic shapes/animals and glued it on with my snazzy craft glue gun! I also used googley eyes.

Filled it up with rice – you can use lentils, beans or those poly beans – or anything that you think would be suitable.

This is the final product:

It’s great for balancing and throughing! I really enjoyed making these and am now making some more for Christian, Katelyn and Zac. You can personalise them – Christian loves fire engines, so his one is blue, with a fire engine on. He loves it!

Play Dough May 19, 2009

Have you tried to make your own play dough? It’s really simple and very quick!

The kids love making this with me, it’s quick and easy and lasts quite a long time in an air tight container. I had some shop bought play dough which I had just opened, but it was all “gooey” and stuck to their fingers. They enjoyed playing with the home made play dough more. They sat for literally an hour doing play dough! It’s amazing to see what they come up with, how they use their imagination – they are creative! Even Zac played for quite some time but eventually he was packing all the play dough accessories into the washing machine, pretending to “wash” them.

It’s a great way to teach them the alphabet – with the alphabet cookie cutters that is!

Milea turns 1 May 18, 2009

Gustav and Sanet’s little girl, Milea,  turned one on 9 May. We went to her birthday party and also had a proper South African braai – yum yum!

Milea is just so adorable, with her own ways and gestures – calling the birds (and people) with her hand and making that cute little sound. She is very clever and alert.

The theme for the party was “Upsy Daisy” from In the Night Garden – well done with the cake Sanet (and Ouma).

I am very proud to announce that we havested our first mushroom! Yip, we are growing mushrooms, where? In our lounge!

The kids have picked and eaten about 2/3 mushrooms. They get so excited to see the mushrooms everyday and water them. There are now many “clusters” growing. This is still the first crop, they say we can get 3 lots out of the box. I must say, they do taste rather organic! Very fresh!

My New Found Passion – Sewing! May 17, 2009

Home-Made quilt

I went on another cleaning spree and came across all the kids baby blankets. I definitely didn’t want to through them away and since I recently started sewing, I thought it would be a great idea to turn all the blankets into one big blanket/quilt!

It was the first time I used a sewing machine or an over-locker and it’s so much fun! I am now on the search for anything to sew and/or make! The gogga has bitten me!

This of course makes a fantastic gift for all the oupa’s and ouma’s – so I am now making 4 “quilts”.

Reynard and I worked together on this project – it was great fun! And productive. It’s always nice to see the finished product.

Be sure to check out our body pillows, soon to be on ebay.

Growing Mushrooms May 4, 2009

Now that the weather is so good we are spending loads more time in the garden. I thought I will share some of the things that we have discovered in our garden. About a week ago I posted that we planted some seeds outside, good news is that they are growing and I will update the blog with the progress.

The kids love planting, so, if your kids are like mine, they just want to plant more and more. It is great for them to see how plants grow, and of course the patience that come with that process.

Our latest growing experience is to grow our own mushrooms, yes, our own mushrooms. It is easy and loads of fun. To read more on mushroom kits and to buy one for your little ones, click HERE.
