Jo bought the kids their own strawberry plant and pot – today we planted it with them. They loved it! Not too keen on digging in the soil though…Reynard had to help them and I had to keep Zac from throughing all the soil out!

They are excited to each have their own pot and plant to look after, very proud!

I am very proud to announce that we havested our first mushroom! Yip, we are growing mushrooms, where? In our lounge!

The kids have picked and eaten about 2/3 mushrooms. They get so excited to see the mushrooms everyday and water them. There are now many “clusters” growing. This is still the first crop, they say we can get 3 lots out of the box. I must say, they do taste rather organic! Very fresh!

Growing Mushrooms May 4, 2009

Now that the weather is so good we are spending loads more time in the garden. I thought I will share some of the things that we have discovered in our garden. About a week ago I posted that we planted some seeds outside, good news is that they are growing and I will update the blog with the progress.

The kids love planting, so, if your kids are like mine, they just want to plant more and more. It is great for them to see how plants grow, and of course the patience that come with that process.

Our latest growing experience is to grow our own mushrooms, yes, our own mushrooms. It is easy and loads of fun. To read more on mushroom kits and to buy one for your little ones, click HERE.

This year we want to do some gardening with the kids, working with the soil is so good for you. Reynard went to Range – my fav shop – and got some seeds.

First on the list for planting is mielies. What I know of gardening could be a bit dangerous, but hey, hopefully by the end of the summer I too will be more knowledgeable in this area. Never too old to learn. Zac didn’t quiet get into it, he is still too small, but at least he tried! In the end Reynard did most of the work. Thanks babe, good job!
