Lisa's family adventures

Disneyland Paris March 5, 2010

Wow, wow, wow – what an experience!

This is a def must do holiday. It was fabulous. The weather was not on our side. It was freezing (-2) and raining and snowing! But hey, we still went out and had fun.

We drove to Folkstone and went over to Calais with the Eurotunnel. The kids enjoyed this experience. It was a first for us as well. From Calais it’s another 3.5 hours drive to Paris. We went straight to Ranch Davy Crocket, checked in and made our way to Disneyland.

The first night we managed to see the 5pm parade. If anything, just the jaw-dropping look on Katelyn’s face made the whole trip worth while. They were taken aback, it was all overwhelming.

The next 2 days we went to the parks, going on various rides. Buzz lightyear, Peter Pan, Snow White, Nemo, Pirates, Tram…we also did Dumbo, this was Zac’s favorite! O and the tea cups. We watched a few shows, it was a good way to keep warm for about 20min.

The highlight for Christian and for me was the Wild West Buffalo Bills show. On arrival we all got cowboy hats. We watched the show (with real horses/bulls) while enjoying our dinner. Mickey and Mini also made an appearance. The kids forgot to eat because they were enjoying it so much. Every now and again Christian would jump up with excitement and cheer the cowboy on!

We missed our slot for the Eurotunnel on our way home, so had to wait for the next one. At least it only takes 35 min, then you’re back in the UK, so quick!

Even now, when I close my eyes, I see all the characters and here the parade music “once upon a dream”

We plan to take the kids there again, but only in a few years time. No prams, no changing bags…and perhaps in the summer!

It’s a family holiday!

Sorry guys, no pics! The kids and I are in PE and hubby is in UK – he has all the pics! Will put pics on as soon as I can!

PS: for those who have a tesco clubcard – you can use your vouchers on the Eurotunnel. I only realized this after we had booked our trip!

Our Journey Begins – Port Elizabeth, South Africa March 16, 2009

It’s December, Christmas time, I’m home sick and thinking – we haven’t been to SA for 3 years…too long if you ask me! The kids and I – that is Christian, Katelyn and Zac flew out on 31 December. Yip, I flew on my own with 3 children! I was really desperate to get away so I just had our destination in mind-and the fact that I haven’t seen family for such a long time. We flew with Emirates (which meant a stop over in Dubai). I must say; they are by far the best airline I have flown with. They were very friendly and the staff helped so much.

Saying goodbye to Reynard at the airport was sad. Christian said: “daddy, I love you, I’m going to miss you”…needless to say that made me (and Reynard) cry…

For me, it was mixed emotions, a bit of stress and a bit of tears! There were just a couple of moments where I thought – can someone just please help me! Christian and Katelyn were a dream on the plane. They watched movies and coloured in. Zac on the other hand…when he was sleeping it was easy…when he was awake he was a bit challenging. But how are you supposed to keep toddlers occupies in a plane for so long???? It would be great if they could build soft play areas on the planes! It would make flying so much more pleasant-for those with children at least!

OK, so I managed the stop over and now we’re in Jhb. We stayed over on the farm. Vivienne (Reynard’s biological mom) fetched us. We spend one night there, then flew on to PE. Wow, was amazing to eventually touch ground and see my family. The kids were also so excited!

And so our 8 week holiday begins…
